Whee Teck experimented with Rough watercolor papers in some of his paintings - this one Saunders Rough 300gsm. The textures pops up with strokes of the brush, almost calligraphy style.
Edgar Whitney used to say "The most beautiful watercolors are virgin washes decorated with calligraphy."
